The Liberal Arts concentration in Global Studies provides students interested in a career in such fields as international relations, global business, law, diplomacy, international aid work, and other public service by providing a beginning understanding of the issues affecting international decision-making today. The objectives and overall requirements of the Global Studies concentration are the same as those for a general Liberal Arts degree; however, within each requirement, the choice of electives affords students an opportunity to approach disciplinary work from a global perspective.

Due to an articulation agreement between Mercer and Rider University, eligible students graduating from Mercer’s Global Studies concentration can transfer seamlessly into Rider’s Global Studies baccalaureate program. Students must complete all specified coursework for the Liberal Arts Global Studies concentration and graduate from MCCC with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher. For Mercer graduates meeting the above criteria, Rider’s Global Studies program offers the added benefit of free tuition for one 3-credit course.

Prospective students are encouraged to compare the curriculum for the Global Studies concentration with that of the standard MCCC Liberal Arts program, as well as to read the Mercer/Rider guaranteed transfer articulation agreement posted on the MCCC Transfer Services website.

For students not transferring to Rider, the Global Studies concentration can lead to similar study elsewhere or transfer to four-year baccalaureate programs in which general Liberal Arts graduates would enroll.

• Understand the vocabulary, methods, and the major concepts present in the humanities, the social sciences, and the natural sciences;

• Articulate complex ideas clearly and effectively, both in speech and in writing;

• Perform a series of thinking tasks including quantitative and abstract reasoning such as speculation, analysis, and synthesis;

• Utilize research materials and methodologies;

• Speak, write, read, and comprehend a world language commensurate with the level of study.
